MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTORATE
Dear collaborators, partners, and friends of the WOMEN OF BIODIVERSITY CORPORATION,
As CEO of our esteemed organization, I am pleased to present to you the Management Report for the year 2023, a year that has been marked by both significant challenges and notable achievements in our tireless fight for the conservation of biodiversity, the fight against climate change and the promotion of gender equality.
The year 2023 has been a period of intense activity and growth for our organization. We have faced unprecedented environmental and social challenges, exacerbated by the global climate crisis and ever-changing socioeconomic dynamics. Despite these obstacles, we have made significant progress, thanks to the tireless commitment of our leadership team, comprised of 8 visionary women, and the network of over 50 dedicated volunteers who share our passion for environmentalism. One of our most notable achievements this year has been the successful implementation of the “ETHNO-PROGRAM TO PROTECT BIODIVERSITY THROUGH FOOTBALL IN THE COLOMBIAN AMAZON BASIN” project. This innovative project has integrated biodiversity conservation with the empowerment of local communities, using football as a tool for environmental education and social inclusion. We have reached over 2,000 individuals directly, increasing environmental awareness by 40% among program participants.
In terms of biodiversity conservation, we have achieved a significant milestone with our botanical gardens project, which has contributed to the preservation of more than 500 native species, some of which are endangered. This project has not only improved local biodiversity, but has also generated sustainable economic opportunities for the surrounding communities.
On the climate change front, we have made progress in implementing mitigation and adaptation strategies. Our “CLIMATELY INTEGRATED WATER PROGRAM IN THE COLOMBIAN AMAZON BASIN” has improved water management for more than 1,000 households, reducing their vulnerability to the effects of climate change and ensuring a more sustainable and resilient water supply.
At the organizational level, we have strengthened our strategic alliances with private, public and educational institutions, which has resulted in a 25% increase in project financing compared to the previous year. These partnerships have been crucial to expanding our reach and deepening our impact.
Looking forward, our vision is to continue expanding our influence and ability to address environmental challenges on an even larger scale. We are committed to innovating our strategies and strengthening our alliances to maximize our impact. In 2024, we plan to launch new projects focused on green technologies and nature-based solutions, with the goal of reducing our carbon footprint by 30% and increasing the resilience of the communities we serve. Additionally, we are focused on expanding our network of volunteers and strengthening the leadership capacity of women in the environmental sector. We firmly believe that women’s empowerment is key to achieving sustainable and significant change in biodiversity conservation and the fight against climate change.
In financial terms, we have maintained responsible and transparent fiscal management, which has allowed us to optimize our resources and ensure the sustainability of our projects. Our focus on diversifying funding sources and generating our own income has allowed us to reduce our dependence on external donations and strengthen our organizational autonomy.
Finally, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has been part of this journey: our dedicated team, our valued partners, and especially to you, our collaborators and friends, for your continued support and trust in our mission. Together, we are making a real difference in protecting our planet and building a more just and sustainable future.
With hope and determination,
CEO
